Frequently Asked Questions

The Miniature Corgidoodle was originally bred for companionship and affection. They have a high sense of loyalty toward their family. They are a spirited little dog with lots of energy to burn and will need plenty of activity and outlets to let their true personality shine.

They are excellent with children. Their boundless energy is a true match for a playful child. However, because of their small size children should be supervised during play time until they understand how gentle they must be with such a little dog.

Yes. However, if it takes after the Poodle parent with a resembling coat it will have minimal shedding. If they take after the Corgi parent they could be a moderate to heavy shedder.

The average size of both male and female Miniature Corgidoodle’s is between 10 to 12 inches in height with a weight between 12 to 28 lbs.

They have lots of energy to burn so will need an adequate amount of activity and exercise each day. A fenced in area is a great place for them to let loose, but they will also need daily walks. 60 minutes of combined exercise and play split up throughout each day will meet their daily needs.

They are the result of breeding a Corgi and Miniature Poodle.

These designer dogs are not recognized by the American Kennel Club or by any other international club because they are a mixed breed. They are however, recognized by the Dog Registry of America and the Designer Breed Registry.

The average lifespan is between 12 to 14 years.

They range in colors and patterns. The most common colors are red, black, brown, tan, sable, white, cream and brindle. Depending on the parents they can also appear speckled, spotted or merle.

This designer hybrid has two very intelligent parent breeds and that intelligence has carried into the genes of this dog. Starting training young and being consistent will help you and your pup get the most out of training sessions. Try not to extend training sessions for long periods of time, as this breed tends to get bored pretty quickly.

As a hybrid there are no known health issues directly related to this breed. The most important thing to keep in mind when it comes to your Miniature Corgidoodle is to look at the parent breeds health history. One factor is the Corgi parents dwarfism, the offspring sometimes has a tendency to suffer from spinal cord problems such as Canine degenerative myelopathy, which causes gradual paralysis just like the parent breed. Additionally, Poodles are susceptible to kidney problems as well as epilepsy.

It is best to brush their coats daily to prevent tangles and mats. They will also need professional grooming appointments every 6 to 8 weeks to keep their coats healthy. If they become dirty quickly they can be bathed at home between grooming appointments.

Short stays at home are okay for this dog, but don’t leave them alone for extended periods of time as they become very anxious. They are also prone to boredom and if left to their own devices could get into some mischief or destruction. They love to socialize and meet new people, so take this little one with you on your travels and errands if at all possible.

These pups love to eat and can become prone to obesity if left unchecked. Be sure to only feed healthy and nutritious foods to avoid them from becoming overweight. An average of 1 cup of food divided into two meals each day is recommended.

Unfortunately, not. Though they are active and energetic they are low key when it comes to strangers coming around. Don’t expect this little one to alert you if anything is amiss.

The Mini Corgidoodle also affectionately known as the Corgipoo originated in the United States as a cross between the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Miniature Poodle or the Cardigan Welsh Corgi and the Toy or Standard Poodle. Being descendants of parents who are popular family pets, they share a sweet, loveable and playful personality.

Appearance and Grooming

With a round head and fox-like muzzle, the Mini Corgidoodles will resemble the Corgi’s stature, inheriting its long body and short legs, but may also inherit longer limbs from its Poodle genes. They have dark almond-shaped eyes and a black nose and either floppy ear’s like that of the Poodle or rounded ears like that of the Corgi. They have a double hypoallergenic coat with wiry waterproof outer hair and inner coat that is soft and fluffy to keep this pooch warm.  You can find this designer breed in black, white, brown, gray, cream, red, or a mix of these colors. You’ll want to give your pup a daily brushing as well as a monthly bath to keep their coat clean and untangled. Nail clipping is recommended once per week.

Temperament

This fun loving and energetic pooch loves to be the center of attention. They are sweet and gentle, though when left alone do their own devices for too long can become mischievous and destructive. It is almost impossible to get mad at these little balls of fur so early socialization and training is pertinent for a well-rounded dog.

Family and Companionship

This breed loves people and enjoys the company and attention of kids and adults alike. They are extremely lively and rarely needy making them a perfect pooch for any style of living. Though, they can find plenty of ways to entertain themselves, they thrive in settings with plenty of people and activity.

Exercise

The Mini Corgiedoodles have moderate to high activity levels of energy and require a minimum of an hour of exercise per day. A long walk in the morning with active play in the afternoon is perfect for this pooch to burn some energy and to stay healthy and trim.

Training and Socialization

Training beginning at an early age is essential to having a well-behaved Mini Corgidoodle as they have high energy levels and are known to get into mischief. They are fairly intelligent, which makes training a fairly simple process if started an early age when they are the most impressionable. Without the proper training and socialization, they can become incorrigible and destructive.
