The Teddy Bear is a designer hybrid that was first bred in the year 2000, from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Maltese (Mal-Shi) or in some cases from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Bichon (Shichon). They are quite popular in the United States and are highly sought after from dog breeders.
Appearance and Grooming
They have round faces with big eyes, small and flat noses, long and droopy ears and a puffy short tail. Partnered with fluffy coats, they resemble little bears. Their fur has different colors, making each of their patterns unique. The colors most common are white, brown, black, grey and yellow. Their fluffy hypoallergenic coats need to be brushed, washed and trimmed periodically.
One of the most loyal dog breeds; they are highly affectionate with high levels of obedience. They are recognized for their gentle nature and bark only when they feel the need to alert their owner. This attribute makes them a great selection for a watch dog.
Family and Companionship
This dog will share its love and affection with each member of its family, equally. Its sociable and friendly nature makes it a great companion for both people and other pets. These are the perfect pet for a family who always has someone around as they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time- they thrive in the company of others.
The Teddy Bear is not a highly active dog therefore a small daily walk along with some indoor play is adequate for their overall health.
Training and Socialization
This designer breed, although sporty and playful shows traits of stubbornness. They do extremely well at following commands and learning new tricks, as long as the owner is gentle and patient. Like many small breeds they need extra attention when it comes to potty training. Socializing your new puppy at an early age and continuing through adolescence will assure good behavior and maturity into adulthood.

I adopted my teddy bear puppy Nov 23rd 2020. My puppy is healthy and happy. I am very happy with my the adoption from Premier Pups. My daughter came to visit on New Years and fell in love with Baxter. I told her how happy I was with my adoption from Premier pups that she adopted a teddy bear pup Ed from premier pups that will be available for her family on Jan 17th!
This is my daughter Alison and our new puppy Oscar (Aiden born 4/10/17). After the loss of our first dog Kosmo (Yorkshire terrier) who died in February I didn't think she would ever be able to love another puppy that much. Well I was wrong! Oscar has fit right into our lives as though he has been here forever. Thank you for the opportunity to adopt/purchase Oscar! We just love him!
We picked Lacey up yesterday at the airport. What Joy when we finally saw her. She was A Christmas Surprise to our children wjo were Beyond excited when we brought her home. Last night was our first night and it went really well. Lacie seems to know her name at 8 weeks old and is very well behaved. Look forward to getting to know her better. Monique
We adopted our sweet Barkley (formerly Theo) almost a year ago. I just want to let you know that he has added so much love and joy to our family. We just think he is precious and we love him so much. If we would ever adopt again, we would definitely come back to this place. Everything was top notch.
Phoebe "Adele" is the best little dog and we can't imagine our family without her. She is loving, affectionate, gentle, playful, and so good with kids. Our experience with Premier Pups was excellent from beginning to end, and we greatly appreciated all of the follow-up calls to see how she was doing. Thank you for giving us the best family dog!
My daughter had asked for a puppy right around Christmas this year, so I started looking online at different breeds. I wasn't impressed with the selection of local breeders, so I expanded my view & stumbled across Premier Pups. I spent over two hours reviewing & reading the site details before deciding on the Teddy Bear breed. Once decided, I came across Ms. Perfect's picture... I showed it to my daughter, and she instantly feel in love. I was skeptical about the whole purchase process of a puppy online, but Premier Pups made it simple & put me at ease. They answered all my calls & questions regarding our puppy, and we she arrived at the airport, we were excited to meet her in person. Peanut Butter has been the sweetest puppy! She's incredibly healthy & smart. Premier Pups called & emailed a few times after she arrived to make sure the puppy was doing well... it was nice knowing they cared so much. I have recommended Premier Pups to several people and would look to them again if we decided to expand our family any more. We love our new family member & couldn't be more pleased!
This is Devin and I got her almost 2 years ago and she is the best dog I could ever ask for! I would get another dog from premierpups again! She is the best addition to our family and the best fur sister to my son ?? We absolutely love her!!
We waited 6 years until we decided on a new fur baby When we saw our little girl with Premier Pups it was love at first sight. Very professional staff & helped me with all my questions with having a young pup.
I adopted Devon a little over a year ago, she is the best little thing to ever happen to our family. Working with Premier pups was great they were very friendly. One thing I would not do though is use the financing, it ended up costing way more money than it should have but that’s not premier pups fault. I would definitely get another dog from them.
