The Teddy Bear is a designer hybrid that was first bred in the year 2000, from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Maltese (Mal-Shi) or in some cases from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Bichon (Shichon). They are quite popular in the United States and are highly sought after from dog breeders.

Appearance and Grooming

They have round faces with big eyes, small and flat noses, long and droopy ears and a puffy short tail. Partnered with fluffy coats, they resemble little bears. Their fur has different colors, making each of their patterns unique. The colors most common are white, brown, black, grey and yellow. Their fluffy hypoallergenic coats need to be brushed, washed and trimmed periodically.

Temperament

One of the most loyal dog breeds; they are highly affectionate with high levels of obedience. They are recognized for their gentle nature and bark only when they feel the need to alert their owner. This attribute makes them a great selection for a watch dog.

Family and Companionship

This dog will share its love and affection with each member of its family, equally.  Its sociable and friendly nature makes it a great companion for both people and other pets.  These are the perfect pet for a family who always has someone around as they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time- they thrive in the company of others.

Exercise

The Teddy Bear is not a highly active dog therefore a small daily walk along with some indoor play is adequate for their overall health.

Training and Socialization

This designer breed, although sporty and playful shows traits of stubbornness. They do extremely well at following commands and learning new tricks, as long as the owner is gentle and patient. Like many small breeds they need extra attention when it comes to potty training. Socializing your new puppy at an early age and continuing through adolescence will assure good behavior and maturity into adulthood.

Name: Stanley
Breed: Teddy Bear

Loc: Detroit, Mi

I drove to Ohio almost 2 years ago to the day to adopt Stanley. I was nervous about what type of facility these dogs would be in and the care that they would have received. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to a beautiful home that was clean, inviting, and a wonderful environment. Over the last 2 years, Stanley has been the absolute best dog and my entire world! I am so happy that I found Premier Pups that lead me to my forever best friend. He has not had any health issues. I am looking into getting another puppy and would absolutely recommend Premier Pups for anyone looking for a new family member!

Breed: Teddy Bear

We were apprehensive about buying a puppy without meeting him first. When we called Premier Pups, they answered all of our questions and were super helpful. The drivers delivering him were in contact to let us know when they would be at the parking lot. Cannoli fit in with the family immediately. He was sent with food and preventative medications. Premier Pups called us several times to check in on him, see if we had questions, and make sure he is healthy, which our vet said he is! This company seems to truly care about their puppies. My family would DEFINITELY recommend this website for anyone who is looking to get a new addition to their family!

Our Griz is a healthy, affectionate, & spunky little pup. Every day he makes us laugh & smile. My family & I couldn’t be any happier. I’ve been wanting one of these teddy bear dogs for 3 years now & my only regret is not getting one sooner. If I ever purchase again premier pups will be my first choice!

Breed: Teddy Bear

Loc: Pennsylvania

We are just coming up on the 1yr mark for acquiring our fur baby and can’t say enough praise to Premier Pups for adding him to our life. I routinely recommend Premier Pups. Keep in mind, these pups are very small when acquiring (roughly just over 2lbs). They must be fed from a syringe to supplement also the puppy food for the first few weeks. Was kinda daunting at first, but Premier Pups supplied all the necessary ingredients along with the medicines. Also provided the documentation and schedule. I wish my children were delivered with as much of an instruction manual.
