The Teddy Bear is a designer hybrid that was first bred in the year 2000, from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Maltese (Mal-Shi) or in some cases from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Bichon (Shichon). They are quite popular in the United States and are highly sought after from dog breeders.
Appearance and Grooming
They have round faces with big eyes, small and flat noses, long and droopy ears and a puffy short tail. Partnered with fluffy coats, they resemble little bears. Their fur has different colors, making each of their patterns unique. The colors most common are white, brown, black, grey and yellow. Their fluffy hypoallergenic coats need to be brushed, washed and trimmed periodically.
One of the most loyal dog breeds; they are highly affectionate with high levels of obedience. They are recognized for their gentle nature and bark only when they feel the need to alert their owner. This attribute makes them a great selection for a watch dog.
Family and Companionship
This dog will share its love and affection with each member of its family, equally. Its sociable and friendly nature makes it a great companion for both people and other pets. These are the perfect pet for a family who always has someone around as they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time- they thrive in the company of others.
The Teddy Bear is not a highly active dog therefore a small daily walk along with some indoor play is adequate for their overall health.
Training and Socialization
This designer breed, although sporty and playful shows traits of stubbornness. They do extremely well at following commands and learning new tricks, as long as the owner is gentle and patient. Like many small breeds they need extra attention when it comes to potty training. Socializing your new puppy at an early age and continuing through adolescence will assure good behavior and maturity into adulthood.

This is our sweet little boy Ripley. Everyone was very friendly and helpful throughout the process from Premier. He is the best.
Harper has being amazing! Healthy puppy and very smart. Would definitely buy again from premierpups. She’s a great addition to my family!
We picked up Piper (fka Arielle) on 7/7/2018. She is the sweetest puppy and has become the center of our family. Our experience with Premier Pups was fantastic. The website was easy to navigate and made it easy for me to fall in love with my little puppy. I made an offer and received a text within 20 minutes to discuss it over the phone. I’m a first-time dog owner and Premier Pups made it so easy to arrange the purchase and pick-up. Piper is healthy and happy. I’ve referred friends to this site because I was so pleased with my puppy and the service we received.
I adopted Devon a little over a year ago, she is the best little thing to ever happen to our family. Working with Premier pups was great they were very friendly. One thing I would not do though is use the financing, it ended up costing way more money than it should have but that’s not premier pups fault. I would definitely get another dog from them.
We got our Teddy Bear over two years ago from Premier Pups and it has honestly been one of the best decisions we ever made. This company made the process very easy and we were really impressed with the follow up and after care support. Louie has brought so much love and joy to our home that we cannot imagine life without him. We are so excited to be adding a little sister Teddy Bear puppy to our family which we can't wait to bring home from Premier Pups in just a few short weeks.
We were apprehensive about buying a puppy without meeting him first. When we called Premier Pups, they answered all of our questions and were super helpful. The drivers delivering him were in contact to let us know when they would be at the parking lot. Cannoli fit in with the family immediately. He was sent with food and preventative medications. Premier Pups called us several times to check in on him, see if we had questions, and make sure he is healthy, which our vet said he is! This company seems to truly care about their puppies. My family would DEFINITELY recommend this website for anyone who is looking to get a new addition to their family!
was planning to take a puppy from one year and finally made it. searched local sites and got Premier Pups website, was able to make a good offer and when finally went to pick it, my hearted melted away with its cute eyes. Mia got attached with in couple of minutes and started jumping all over with its tiny Legs. It wants to play all of the time and can't deny a lovely little tiny ones. I got clear instructions about food and sufficient food for 2 weeks. Helpline is available all the time. helpline gave me little confident that i dont have to be scared if some thing happens. Love to have Mia around .
We love him. His is such a good boy and very playful. I've recommended premier pups to friends and family already
Just got Daisy right before Easter and my grandkids found this Easter dress for her with a daisy on the side.(So Cute).W e just love her and she has settled in with us just fine don't know what I would do without her ty Premier pups for such a lovely dog....She is Great
We purchased our little Delilah (formerly “Gili”) the day her pic was posted! I was extremely hesitant about purchasing a puppy online! Especially 3.5 weeks before she was actually available! I did a lot of research on Teddy Bear breeds prior to the purchase, and I asked a lot of questions! For instance, I asked what specific breeds were mixed, and I requested pictures of the parents. Our Teddy Bear pup is a Maltese/Shih tzu mix (Malshi). In my opinion, I would expect more information to be automatically given from Premier Pups... especially since a “Teddy Bear” breed is a vague category that includes many mixes... and especially for the price. I asked for an updated video or picture before she was flown out. I was extremely happy to get an adorable video! We ran into a few glitches with her microchip number, and I never received an initial email after purchasing her, only an automatic receipt. The issues were resolved quickly and politely! The employees I spoke to throughout the process were very kind and helpful! I really liked that I could text a question also. Her flight went smoothly, and we immediately fell in love with her! Premier Pups called 2-3 times after we received her to check in! She is now 13 weeks old, has been to the vet twice for check ups, and she is a healthy, happy, growing little puppy! We love our little Malshi! Overall, we’d do it all again to get Delilah! She’s pure joy! My advice to anyone making a puppy purchase is to be proactive in gathering as much information as you can, set up a vet appointment as Premier Pups recommends, evaluate the preventive meds and the needs of your specific pup, and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions! Thank you Premier Pups!
