The Yorkshire Terrier also known to many as the Yorkie, said to have Scottish ancestry, was brought to England by breeders in the 19th century. It was originally bred and used to catch mice in clothing mills. Due to its energetic and brave temperament, it excelled at this task. Today, the Yorkie is one of the most popular and sought-after dog breeds in the United States. Its long silky coat which is usually blue and tan in color gives this puppy a unique physical appearance. These charming little dogs crave attention and are very affectionate towards humans; thus, making them the perfect addition to your family.

Appearance and Grooming

This toy sized terrier has a long, silky and soft blue and tan coat that is parted on the face and from the base of the skull to the end of the tail and hangs evenly and quite straight down each side of body. The body is neat, compact and well proportioned. An interesting fact is that their coats become lighter in color as they age. Though, shedding is minimal, their long hair requires daily brushing in effort to prevent tangles and knots. Regular grooming every for 6 to 8 weeks is also very important to keep a healthy coat and clipped nails.

Temperament

This self-assured, intelligent breed is a combination of charming looks and adventurous terrier spirit. This breed can certainly show a wide range of personalities from cuddly and perky and wanting nothing more than to adoringly follow in their families everywhere, to an outgoing and sometimes mischievous temperament. Early socialization and training will make for a well-rounded addition to your family. But be careful not to spoil them to much as they can encourage them to form bad behaviors.

Family and Companionship

These elegant dogs are very affectionate towards their owners and families as one would expect from a companion dog, but true to their terrier heritage, they're sometimes suspicious of strangers, and will bark at strange sounds and intruders. They require lots of attention and time with their family. It is best not to leave them for long hours as they will become quite anxious and yappy. Because of their small size they will do best with older children unless supervised during play time with younger children.

Exercise

Daily exercise will help your Yorkie release pent-up energy, maintain muscles, keep the heart healthy, keeps the metabolism working efficiently and intense that they are panting. A moderate walk twice a day is perfect. These dogs like routine, so ideally one in the morning and one in the evening.

Training and Socialization

These puppies respond best to repetition, praise and plenty of positive reinforcement. They are very in tune with the trainer and the challenges of training as they are driven by the mental stimulation. Early socialization is equally important as it offers the opportunity to become accustomed to people, other dogs and traffic. It also provides this curious pup with mental stimulation by way of sight, scent, sound, which aids in the training process.

We picked up Chloe almost 2 weeks ago. She had her first vet appointment today and they said she is very healthy. She is the cutest tiniest puppy with the sweetest personality. The people at Premiere Pups have been great about calling to check on our girl and answering any questions we have. I would definitely recommend them and I have. We love our Chloe. She is perfect for our family.

Name: “Bella” Chanel
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Client: Karen Richardson
Loc: Toledo Ohio

I have been monitoring Premier Pups site for a long time before finally making a pup purchase. I was very skeptical about making the online purchase and not being able to see the actual pup in person. Well, the transaction was very easy after watching the Informational videos. The pick up was very easy and professionally done. The puppy was actually the exact pup that I purchased. Chanel has been with us a week now, healthy as can be. Premier Pup Associates communicated daily, emailed weekly expectations, and made sure everything was covered to assist us with the transition. I’m very grateful and happy that I took this chance. Thank you Premier Pups!!!

Name: Chaise
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Client: Cody and Aimee Ash
Loc: Clarksburg, WV

I have already posted one review, but thought I’d provide an update. We have had Chaise now for over 2 years and he is the sweetest little guy. He brings so much love and plenty of laughs in our lives. I can’t thank Premier Pups enough for being accommodating and providing us with the best little baby.

Date: 7/3/2018
Name: Hank (formerly Timmy)
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Client: Emily and Suzie
Loc: Royal Oak, MI

After begging and waiting ten years for my mom to let me get a puppy, she finally caved. I’m completely convinced I was meant to wait these ten years specifically so Hank would come into my life. He was supposed to be my mom and dad’s dog, but he immediately bonded and took a liking to me. He is such a loving and playful pup who loves playing in his kiddie pool outside, along with chasing the hose and squirrels in our backyard. He’s my little shadow and I’m so happy I was referred to Premier Pups to find him!

The staff helped with any and all questions that I had. Thanks guys for my fury baby he is my world.

Date: 5/15/2016
Name: Gracie ( Formally Twinkle)
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Client: Carol McConnell
Loc: Hopatcong NJ

We had been searching for Yorkie for some time and then stumbled upon Premier Pets. I fell in love with Twinkle's face. She reminded me so much of my beloved Sadie who had passed away months before. Our other Yorkie Harley had been very lonely. I was a little leery about having her shipped to NJ, but Premier Pets put my mind at ease and on April 10th we met our new furry baby at the airport. She was beautiful! And in perfect health! She was very tiny, but as you can see she's growing fast. She loves her big sister and her big sister loves her! Thank you Premier Pets for making this so easy and thank you for all the follow up calls after she arrived. We are in love with this sweet little girl!

Date: 10/15/2017
Name: Finbar (formerly Rascal)
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Client: Tony Bialowas
Loc: Strongsville, Ohio

We had not had a puppy search in 17 years. We were amazed at how difficult it was to locate reliable information on reliable breeders or breeder representative services. I work in law enforcement, so it was also shocking to see how many low-ball internet scam sites exist these days, ready to rob you. My family cannot say enough good things about Premier Pups. They provide precisely what they promise, and more in terms of integrity and peace of mind. I am unaware of any other midwestern breeder representative that makes everything so easy, all in one site. We were not only able to pay a very fair price for our Teacup Yorkie; we were able to in several clicks secure pickup of everything we could need to make our and the puppy's transition super smooth, from play pens to medicines to a great Puppeepoo Palace pad training kennel. The Doctor Pup membership for only $3.95 per month has already proved invaluable to us as a resource for the best updated, simple to understand, veterinary tips and advice for puppies. Thank you, Premier Pups, and well done on your beautiful and immaculate facility! You know upon arrival that you are dealing with real pet professionals who care. Your prompt and courteous response to our needs and questions has been impressive and MOST appreciated! We couldn't be happier to have found you. Tony Bialowas and family. Strongsville, Ohio
