Training Tips

Using the Palace

December 3, 2019, 9:29 AM
Q: My puppy arrived yesterday via air transport. When we got her of course she had peed and pooped in her crate. We thoroughly cleaned and are using it for nap times and night. Each time she goes in there she poops and pees. I take her out every 2- 2n1/2 hours but she does her business in the crate. How can we stop her from going in the crate? Thank you.
A: The primary use of the palace is to pad train a puppy. It can be used as a temporary opportunity while your puppy is gaining control over elimination which is usually by 16 weeks of age. If outdoor training is the goal the first step is to spend as much time out as possible. Also, interrupt sleep, play and eating and carry her outside, she must remain out until she eliminates.
