Chem 10 Blood Test
$69.95A comprehensive chemisty profile ideal for canine screening; the Chem 10 allows for a thorough look at the puppies organ function, which helps detect mainly issues with liver and kidney function. This initial bloodwork can offer insight on the health of your puppy at a fraction of the rate your local vet would charge. Included in the Chem 10 Test?
AlbuminAn albumin blood test measures the amount of albumin in the blood. Albumin is a protein made by your liver. Albumin helps keep fluid in your bloodstream, so it doesn’t leak into other tissues. It also carries substances throughtout the body, including hormones, vitamins and enzymes.
Albumin : Globulin RatioThe albumin/globulin ratio is the amount of albumin in the serum divided by the globulins. The ratio is used to try to idenify causes of change in total serum protein.
Alkaline PhosphataseThe alkalin phosphatase test is used to help detect liver disease or bone disorders. It is often ordered along with other tests, such as gamma-glutamyl transferase and/or as part of a liver panel. In conditions affecting the liver, damaged liver cells release increased amounts of ALP into the blood.
Alanine TransaminaseALT, which stands for alanine transaminase, is an enzyme found mostly in the liver. When liver cells are damaged, they release ALT into the bloodstream. An ALT test measures the amount of ALT in the blood.
Blood Urea NitrogenThis test determines kidney function. An increased level is called azotemia and can be caused by kidney, liver and heart diesease as well as urethral obstruction, shock or dehydration.
BUN : Creatinine RatioAn increased ratio may be due to a condition that causes a decrease in the flow of blood to the kidneys, such as congestive heart failure or dehydration.
CreatinineThe urine protein:creatinine (UPC) ratio is a simple test that measures how much protein is being lost through the kidneys. It is used to determine whether a puppy may have serious kidney disease.
GlobulinThis is a group of proteins. Some of them are made by your liver. Others are made by your immune system. They help fight infection and transport nutrients.
Blood GlucoseA blood glucose test is used to find out if your blood sugar levels are in the healthy range. It is often used to help diagnose and monitor diabetes and look for hypoglycemia.
Total ProteinThe total protein test measures the total amount of protein in your blood and specifically looks for the amount of albumin and globulin.
Bile Acid Test
$99.95 or FREE if Chem 10 results show high levels of ALTBile acids are compounds that are made in the liver and stored in the gall bladder. The bile acid test is a very useful test that helps to determine if the liver is working properly. Specifically, the test answers three questions:
Does the liver have enough healthy cells to do its job?
Does the liver have a good blood supply?
Is bile moving freely through and out of the liver?
This test rules out liver shunts which is a common genetic defect in small breed puppies.
