Q: My french bulldog 6 month old puppy seems have hives on his back. It's red and bumpy, he's scratching his back a lot. He has had other skin rashes before but never with bumps. I gave him Benadryl last night and that helped. His attitude and appetite are still very good, he's very active. I was wondering if there is anything I could put on his back to help them go down and help with the redness.
A: It is good you got some response to the benadry, suggested dose is 1mg per pound body weight twice daily. You can also use topical hydrocortizone sprays, they can be messy but will help. Any idea what triggered the hives?
