Coughing After Vaccination

December 15, 2013, 11:22 AM
Q: My puppy has started to have a little cough. It started the day after his 12 week shots. He doesn't cough very often, but it's been going on for a couple of days. Is this something to be concerned about?
A: As long as his attitude and appetite are good you do not need to worry. Sometimes if an intranasal vaccine was used there is a brief period of coughs or sneezes. Even if an intranasal vaccine wasn't used the suppression of the immune system that occurs after vaccination can allow mild respiratory infections to surface. If you feel that the cough is increasing in intensity, frequency or if he starts to feel bad let me or your vet know.
