Diarrhea

Q: Hello, My 3-month-old Pomeranian is having diarrhea with mucus and just really soft stool that leaves behind a streak. His stools are loose but still hold their shape. He is not vomiting and has the energy to play and eat. Should I continue giving him kibble, change to rice and chicken, or go 12-24 hours without food? What about Pepto Bismol (I think I saw that in another form) or a trip to the vet is needed? This has been going on for two days now.

A: As long as your puppy feels good and has an appetite you can try home care for a couple days.  Pepto bismol at 0.5 ml per pound body weight 2-3 times a day and a bland diet for a couple days.  If no improvement you should see your vet.
