Common Conditions

Irritated "Privates"

January 28, 2014, 10:37 AM
Q: Rosie a 14 week frenchie has an irritation in her vulvar fold. She is digging in there. The rash or irritated area is focal, non raised, slightly brownish. We gave a cool running bath to the area which seemed to soothe it. Any other suggestions Thx
A: Inflammation of the area around the vulva is pretty common especially if there is a pronounced vulvar fold. It frequently occurs during the transition period to a new environment particularly if extended travel was involved. The key to managing this is to keep the area as dry as possible, using human acne pads to clean the area followed by a light layer of Desinex or similar diaper products works often. Make sure to mention this on your first visit to your vet so they can take a closer look.
