Scratching at Ears

August 7, 2014, 7:31 PM
Q: We just brought home a 10 week old Maltese on 8/5/14. Noticed the pup would scratch behind her ears, we were recommended to rub her ears with rubbing alcohol. She still scratches at her ears every now and then. It looks pink/red inside. Should I worry?
A: Ear infections are common in young puppies and while rubbing alcohol is not a bad idea it can be a little harsh so I prefer a combination of rubbing alcohol and white vinegar (the vinegar also helps with yeast overgrowth which is a common cause of infection) Take a look at the home demo video "cleaning my puppies ears) If you do this a couple days in a row and still notice problems let your vet know at her first checkup.
