Shedding Hair

August 9, 2014, 7:54 PM
Q: My 12 week old morkie puppy is shedding fine hair. I thought this breed was non shedding. Can you shed some light on this :)
A: All dogs shed, there may be some differences in the quantity and also the texture of the hair has a lot to do with how much you notice it. There is a normal replacement of "puppy" hair that usually is most noticeable between 3 and 4 months of age. The new hair many times has a different texture and sometimes a change in depth of color. There is a whole other group of hair loss situations that are not normal and most of those would be focal (confined to limited areas) or involve itching or some type of skin lesion (rash, scabs or discoloration). Please let me know if you have other questions on this?
