Too Much Flakey Skin

June 13, 2017, 9:12 PM
Q: My 14 week old morkie had dandruff. We brush him about 3 times/week, bath him every 14-17 days and even after we bath him and brush him he has white flakes. He doesn't scratch himself nor seem irritated. Can we use lotion? What can we do to help alleviate this?
A: The two most effective ways to deal with dry skin is using a mild (aloe & oatmeal) shampoo and leave on conditioner. The best long term approach is using an oral fatty acid supplement, there are many available OTC. Keep in mind they try to improve the new skin but the old dry stuff has to grow off first so it can take 3 weeks to see the benefit.
