Pee like a grown up

July 25, 2017, 11:02 AM
Q: We have a male dog who Is 14 weeks. He squats to pee instead of lifting his leg, so pee gets all over his belly. When will he start to pee with a lifted leg?
A: Leg lifting is triggered by the production of testosterone so most puppies will begin that position at about 8 months for small dogs and 10-12 months for larger breeds. Of course if you neuter him before testosterone influence is present then he may always squat.
