Sleep Breathing Patterns

October 23, 2017, 12:12 AM
Q: 11 week old French Bulldog came home today and seems to be experiencing what seems to be quick breathing while he sleeps ? What causes this ? Best recommended course of action ?
A: Judging respiratory or circulatory status through respiration patterns during slleep are generally a bad idea. Respiratory rate, depth and character all vary normally during sleep due to cental nervous system factors (REM patterns) and not due to the condition of the respiratory or circulatory systems. If your puppy’s attitude and appetite are good and there are no other symptoms noted while awake I would not worry.
