Excessive water consumption

Q: Our 4.5-month-old Cavapoo has recently been drinking much more water than he has previously (1-2 bowls a day compared to less than 1 bowl daily). This has been followed by an increase in frequency and amount of urination. He had not had an accident inside for several weeks but has now had several accidents over the past couple days. Is this anything to be concerned about?

A: If the change is obvious and has persisted for more than a couple days you should have him checked by your vet. They might suggest blood work in addition to a urinalysis so have him fasted 12 hours before the visit and take a couple milliliters of urine with you.
