too many calories?

Q: I have a 13 week old Morkie and I started training her on basic commands. I was instructed to feed her 1/2 cup of food /24hrs 3xDay but I am giving her treats with the training throughout the day. How do I know if she is getting too many calories. Thanks!

A: While she is actively growing and with reasonable exercise it is hard to "over feed" a puppy. I like freeze dried products like liver or chicken cubes as tests since they are lower in calories and sodium than typical processed treats. Try to keep the volume of tests less tha 20%of her intake.
