Q: You have recommended Royal Canin for my Shitzu puppy . The first ingredient is brewers yeast and then chicken by products not meat. Why is that okay ?

A: The idea that a modern dog needs to be a strict carnivore I do not agree with. The fad push on “grain free” only to lead to evidence that those diets are actually harmful is a prime example. “By products” simply mean that they contain organ tissue as well as “meat” which to me may actually be better.
