Do I Need to Remove the Loft?

June 26, 2014, 9:31 AM
Q: Puppy is to big for the cot in crate. When are u supposed to remove it and the pee pads to give the dog more space so he can be more comfortable while sleeping. We only crate him at night for sleeping. He uses pee pad maybe 1x per week. Is it to early to have him not sleeping in crate at all?
A: From my record your puppy is almost 7 months old which would mean he should be pretty well trained to the potty routine you have chosen. If he has outgrown the loft you can remove it any time and turn his crate into sleeping area only. It is probably a good idea to get rid of the pad and replace it with a full size (to the crate) soft bed to signify that it is no longer an area to eliminate. He is certainly old enough to go through the night without elimination.
