Poop training takes longer

February 27, 2018, 8:27 PM
Q: My 12 week old Teddy Bear pees on the pad all the time. But she doesn’t poop on the pad - sometimes she does and most of the time she poops elsewhere. Randomly in the apartment. How can I get her to poop on her pad? And why isn’t she both peeing and pooing on her pad?
A: The steps that lead up to defecation take longer than those for urination. If you are pad training the only option that will work is she has to stay confined to the area of the pad until after she does both. Once you can praise her for getting it right the interval required to poop will decrease.
