Training Puppy to Pad

June 12, 2018, 8:01 AM
Q: Good Morning, My Maltipoo will not poop in his crate. He refuses. As soon as he steps onto the floor he begins the dig & circle. He pooped on my floor. I quickly took him back to his crate, but he stopped and has done nothing since. This morning, I took him out for relief on the pads, he did not go, after 15 min, i put him back in for 15 min, took him out again....and he will not poop. Help! He prefers to chew the pads from the corner. So, those Re always ripped off.
A: If pad training is the goal he must stay in the palace until after he eliminates, this is Phase 1 of his training and usually needs to last about 2 weeks. This creates the opportunity for praise and reward for getting it right. He will not automatically use the pad outside of the palace until after all 3 phases have been completed.
