The Teddy Bear is a designer hybrid that was first bred in the year 2000, from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Maltese (Mal-Shi) or in some cases from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Bichon (Shichon). They are quite popular in the United States and are highly sought after from dog breeders.
Appearance and Grooming
They have round faces with big eyes, small and flat noses, long and droopy ears and a puffy short tail. Partnered with fluffy coats, they resemble little bears. Their fur has different colors, making each of their patterns unique. The colors most common are white, brown, black, grey and yellow. Their fluffy hypoallergenic coats need to be brushed, washed and trimmed periodically.
One of the most loyal dog breeds; they are highly affectionate with high levels of obedience. They are recognized for their gentle nature and bark only when they feel the need to alert their owner. This attribute makes them a great selection for a watch dog.
Family and Companionship
This dog will share its love and affection with each member of its family, equally. Its sociable and friendly nature makes it a great companion for both people and other pets. These are the perfect pet for a family who always has someone around as they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time- they thrive in the company of others.
The Teddy Bear is not a highly active dog therefore a small daily walk along with some indoor play is adequate for their overall health.
Training and Socialization
This designer breed, although sporty and playful shows traits of stubbornness. They do extremely well at following commands and learning new tricks, as long as the owner is gentle and patient. Like many small breeds they need extra attention when it comes to potty training. Socializing your new puppy at an early age and continuing through adolescence will assure good behavior and maturity into adulthood.

I am so happy I got my Teddy Bear Pup from Premier Pups. I absolutely love her, I drove 6.5 hours to pick her up and it was well worth it. Azorah is the name I chose but Kelly was what they named her. She is playful and so adorable. I definitely will recommend them to all my friends and family. I even posted them on my social media sights. Thanks Premier Pups!
Discovered PremierPups (PP) & the Teddy Bear breed. Several conversations offered assurance to me from PP of their knowledge, expertise and care. Shipping my pup to CA and their follow up care was excellent. He had a long flight day. When I reached out with questions and requested assistance someone immediately addressed my pup's needs. Marcus Miller is a vivacious and sweet pup. We're practicing social distancing due to COVID 19 so most family and friends have only met him virtually. Most folks are unfamiliar with Teddy Bears so he is a novelty and show stopper. While Marcus requires a lot of TLC because he is a puppy, now only 4 months old, I find him smart & easily trainable. Commands he's mastered are: Sit, Down & Dance. We're working on Stay, High Five and Roll over. He loves to play fetch ball. Recently completed his vaccinations we now walk to our neighborhood park where he runs to his heart's content. I'm in love with my Teddy Bear. He goes hiking and cycling with me in a backpack. We go everywhere together. He is a good little traveler. Although puppy excitable Marcus has been good with kids and adults. My experience with Premier Pups has been exceptional. I highly recommend Premier Pups. They stand behind their word with customer service truly caring for the health and well being of the puppies. THANK YOU Premier Pups!
I was very skeptical, and I had major second thoughts...but I was totally wrong! Premier pups were every thing they professed to be and more! Adding a canine family member is not to be taken lightly. First a little history. My daughter and family had very sweet little Shitzu who sadly came from a puppy mill. "Doogie's" time with us was good while it lasted, even tho his health problems, typical of a puppy mill, plagued him most of his life. Never ever again would we make the mistake of getting a pup from a mill! After some deep and exhaustive research online AP/PP looked promising. These folks care deeply about the health and welfare of each puppy they place in a loving home. They are the middlemen between reputable licensed breeders and families looking for a quality puppy. AP/PP does all the vetting of breeders and their facilities so that you don't have to. They will NOT represent any breeder who does not conform to their high standards. Their reputation depends on it! 8,000+ reviews on their website confirm that. Many years of being in business confirm that. Lucky arrived wagging his tail and ready to play....no worse for wear tho he flew from Ohio. You could immediately tell that Lucky had been handled frequently and had been socialized. There is no struggle to take a shower or bath and he loves playing with the kids! There really are no words that can adequately express the quality of this organization. AP/PP are great communicators! No question is too small My daughter and I called several times before Lucky arrived...and I had "Major second thoughts" as his arrival grew closer. Each time, Mike or Matt or Ryan would talk me off the ledge! Their support did not stop after Lucky arrived. They called several times to see how the pup was adjusting, making suggestions and answering more questions. Their "after the sale" protocol is beyond impressive! Lucky's first flight was cancelled so his arrival was delayed by a day. Knowing that we had a couple of very dissappointed kids on this end, and a puppy who was in a crate ready to fly until it was cancelled..Mike took the time to bring the puppy to his family's home..giving Lucky a chance to get some exercise and play with the kids...and sent our kids a video...just to reassure them that all was well!!! Who does that? Ethical people who really care about the puppies they represent. Don't have any doubts..AP/PP are the real deal. And we thank them every time we get to enjoy our new adorable family member! AP/PP have my email and cell # if you need reassurance from a live customer!
Very highly recommend Premier pups if you are purchasing a fur baby! Excellent service from day 1. They are very caring to both the pups and to myself. Thank you to all at Premier but, especially Kacee and Matt. I will always recommend Premier.
Love our new puppy. He is everything they said he would be and more. Thanks Premier Pups!!!
We are so in love with our Teddy Bear dog. He is super smart, sweet, and loving. We named him Alexander, after Axelander Hamilton. It's a big name for a small dog, but he lives up to it. Alexander is now seven months old. He was super easy to house train.
I bought my puppy two and half years ago. She is the best little dog. Easy to train and absolutely no health problems. I am a widow and she is the light of my life. I wouldn t mind having another one. I am happy with premier pups. My puppies original name was Bonita
I got Niko (formerly Bart) 09/28/2019. He’s one years old now and the best descision made in purchasing him. Niko is extremely active, playful, lovable, and affectionate. He’s so awesome!
I originally got Charlie so I could have a companion while my boyfriend was away. But as soon as he arrived he soon became much more than a companion, he became my very best friend. He is the sweetest, funniest, and craziest dog I have ever owned and stole my heart immediately upon meeting him. He is so laid back and easy to train. I wouldn’t rather have any other dog.
I highly recommend premier pups. I just picked her up from the airport yesterday and she is an absolute doll. She had her first vet appt today and did amazing ... thank you premier pups doing such a great job with her and you were great with answering all my questions :) thank you again !! Highly recommend here
