The Teddy Bear is a designer hybrid that was first bred in the year 2000, from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Maltese (Mal-Shi) or in some cases from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Bichon (Shichon). They are quite popular in the United States and are highly sought after from dog breeders.
Appearance and Grooming
They have round faces with big eyes, small and flat noses, long and droopy ears and a puffy short tail. Partnered with fluffy coats, they resemble little bears. Their fur has different colors, making each of their patterns unique. The colors most common are white, brown, black, grey and yellow. Their fluffy hypoallergenic coats need to be brushed, washed and trimmed periodically.
One of the most loyal dog breeds; they are highly affectionate with high levels of obedience. They are recognized for their gentle nature and bark only when they feel the need to alert their owner. This attribute makes them a great selection for a watch dog.
Family and Companionship
This dog will share its love and affection with each member of its family, equally. Its sociable and friendly nature makes it a great companion for both people and other pets. These are the perfect pet for a family who always has someone around as they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time- they thrive in the company of others.
The Teddy Bear is not a highly active dog therefore a small daily walk along with some indoor play is adequate for their overall health.
Training and Socialization
This designer breed, although sporty and playful shows traits of stubbornness. They do extremely well at following commands and learning new tricks, as long as the owner is gentle and patient. Like many small breeds they need extra attention when it comes to potty training. Socializing your new puppy at an early age and continuing through adolescence will assure good behavior and maturity into adulthood.

Hello: I usually don't do reviews but we are really happy with tucker. Over the last year we lost our three Poodles of 16 plus years. We were really missing them and came across Premier Pups. My wife and I were very apprehensive about buying a dog online without seeing them other than a picture. I have to say Tucker is a very loving intelligent dog and we are so happy that we bought him From Premier Pups. I was very impressed that they called several times to make sure he was doing OK and to see if we had any questions or concerns. I would not hesitate recommending this company to anyone that is looking for a puppy. Thank you For the great addition to our family.
was planning to take a puppy from one year and finally made it. searched local sites and got Premier Pups website, was able to make a good offer and when finally went to pick it, my hearted melted away with its cute eyes. Mia got attached with in couple of minutes and started jumping all over with its tiny Legs. It wants to play all of the time and can't deny a lovely little tiny ones. I got clear instructions about food and sufficient food for 2 weeks. Helpline is available all the time. helpline gave me little confident that i dont have to be scared if some thing happens. Love to have Mia around .
Very highly recommend Premier pups if you are purchasing a fur baby! Excellent service from day 1. They are very caring to both the pups and to myself. Thank you to all at Premier but, especially Kacee and Matt. I will always recommend Premier.
We got this little boy on the 2nd of January and he has been a bundle of joy ever since. Clyde goes from being playful to cuddly throughout the day and fits right into the family. He was comfortable since the first day and we couldn’t of asked for a better dog. Smooth transition and very healthy so far. This is our third puppy from premier and we are very pleased once again with how everything turned out.
My wonderful faculty presented me with a check for a puppy when I retired. What wonderful colleagues and friends ! I had been searching several sites and watching for the 'perfect pup' to adopt. When Covid hit, I knew it was time to decide. I chose Premier Pups for their location (about 2 hours from our home) and based on the wonderful reviews of past customers. I was not disappointed. Gracie has been the ray of sunshine during the pandemic. My granddaughter is being taught remotely - which is stressful and isolating. Having a gentle pup to snuggle has been wonderful for her. The process was easy. The staff we worked with were patient, accommodating and so very kind. (And yes - she did become a huge Steelers fan !) Thank you, Premier Pups !! We love our Gracie!
Our Maltipoo 17 years old , crossed the rainbow bridge almost 2 years ago. We weren’t sure if we ever wanted another puppy. We searched all over and came upon Premier Pups. We picked up Maggie Mae , a teddy bear, last night from Roger and we are all getting adjusted to each other. Of course she missed her much mama and siblings but hoping every night gets a little easier for her !
We purchased our little Delilah (formerly “Gili”) the day her pic was posted! I was extremely hesitant about purchasing a puppy online! Especially 3.5 weeks before she was actually available! I did a lot of research on Teddy Bear breeds prior to the purchase, and I asked a lot of questions! For instance, I asked what specific breeds were mixed, and I requested pictures of the parents. Our Teddy Bear pup is a Maltese/Shih tzu mix (Malshi). In my opinion, I would expect more information to be automatically given from Premier Pups... especially since a “Teddy Bear” breed is a vague category that includes many mixes... and especially for the price. I asked for an updated video or picture before she was flown out. I was extremely happy to get an adorable video! We ran into a few glitches with her microchip number, and I never received an initial email after purchasing her, only an automatic receipt. The issues were resolved quickly and politely! The employees I spoke to throughout the process were very kind and helpful! I really liked that I could text a question also. Her flight went smoothly, and we immediately fell in love with her! Premier Pups called 2-3 times after we received her to check in! She is now 13 weeks old, has been to the vet twice for check ups, and she is a healthy, happy, growing little puppy! We love our little Malshi! Overall, we’d do it all again to get Delilah! She’s pure joy! My advice to anyone making a puppy purchase is to be proactive in gathering as much information as you can, set up a vet appointment as Premier Pups recommends, evaluate the preventive meds and the needs of your specific pup, and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions! Thank you Premier Pups!
I was very sceptical buying a puppy off the internet and having them ship her by plane to us, but premier pups made the whole experience comfortable and exciting. When we got our little Rosie she fit into our crazy family perfectly. She is the most loving and energetic little puppy. We ended up buying the puppy palace and the playpen, but we only put her in there when no one is home, which isn’t very often. She is already so spoiled and we all enjoy her little personality so much. We will definitely buy from premier pups again.
I just got Mushu 2 days ago. I can tell you I was probably the most impatient customer Premier Pets ever had. I purchased Mushu as a presale pup and he wasnt available for a week after I purchased him, which was totally my fault. The staff at Premier pets went above and beyond and sent me videos and even tried to get him on a Sunday flight to Alaska. I dealt with Margot, Anthony, and Matthew. As soon as Mushu was shipped to me I refreshed his flight status every 5 minutes. I was so anxious for him to arrive. Just like any puppy owner, i was concerned for his health and his temperment. For the first few minutes he was shaking becuase he was scared (and probably cold) but after that, he was running around with our goldendoodle like he owned the place. You can tell Mushu was a happy puppy! Its only day 2 and hes already potty trained. Ive already recommended Premier pups to my friends who are planning to purchase a pup from them this week! Thank you to the Premier pups staff who sent us our new family member! and also a side note for all you people who think Premier pup uses puppy mills, I highly doubt it becase theres no way a puppy like Mushu comes from a puppy mill, he's way to happy and chubby haha. I would assume a puppy from a mill would be scared, shy, and sad looking. which is completely opposite then Mushu. I honestly have no idea how the staff doesnt want to take home all the puppies... Thank You!-Chelsea from Alaska
My family was very nervous about ordering a puppy online but were very pleasantly relieved when we arrived at the facility. It was clean and welcoming and the staff took the time to meet with us to explain the puppy care tips we would need. Now that we have had Theo home for 3 weeks none of us can imagine life without him. He is such a happy and loving puppy! Thank you, premier pups.
