The Teddy Bear is a designer hybrid that was first bred in the year 2000, from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Maltese (Mal-Shi) or in some cases from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Bichon (Shichon). They are quite popular in the United States and are highly sought after from dog breeders.

Appearance and Grooming

They have round faces with big eyes, small and flat noses, long and droopy ears and a puffy short tail. Partnered with fluffy coats, they resemble little bears. Their fur has different colors, making each of their patterns unique. The colors most common are white, brown, black, grey and yellow. Their fluffy hypoallergenic coats need to be brushed, washed and trimmed periodically.

Temperament

One of the most loyal dog breeds; they are highly affectionate with high levels of obedience. They are recognized for their gentle nature and bark only when they feel the need to alert their owner. This attribute makes them a great selection for a watch dog.

Family and Companionship

This dog will share its love and affection with each member of its family, equally.  Its sociable and friendly nature makes it a great companion for both people and other pets.  These are the perfect pet for a family who always has someone around as they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time- they thrive in the company of others.

Exercise

The Teddy Bear is not a highly active dog therefore a small daily walk along with some indoor play is adequate for their overall health.

Training and Socialization

This designer breed, although sporty and playful shows traits of stubbornness. They do extremely well at following commands and learning new tricks, as long as the owner is gentle and patient. Like many small breeds they need extra attention when it comes to potty training. Socializing your new puppy at an early age and continuing through adolescence will assure good behavior and maturity into adulthood.

Breed: Teddy Bear

Loc: Cleveland Heights, OH

Our experience with Premier Pups was pretty fantastic. Nazra is a healthy, energetic, adorable Shih-Poo puppy and we are thankful that PP made her a part of our family! If you are buying a pup and are considering using PP, do it. They offer an amazing level of service. They are not sketchy and are honest and approachable. The instructions for giving medication overwhelmed me a bit, but they talked to me several times on the phone to walk me through the process. She was a hit at the Vet's office, and the doc commented on how healthy she was. Although I want our next dog to be a rescue, PP does such an amazing job with their pups and level of service I'm tempted to get another puppy through them! Thank you to PP, and to the breeder of this Shih-Poo. We are so happy to have her in our lives.

Name: Mushu aka Mushipoo (purchased as Aiden)
Breed: Teddy Bear
Client: Chelsea Coartney
Loc: Anchorage, Alaska

I just got Mushu 2 days ago. I can tell you I was probably the most impatient customer Premier Pets ever had. I purchased Mushu as a presale pup and he wasnt available for a week after I purchased him, which was totally my fault. The staff at Premier pets went above and beyond and sent me videos and even tried to get him on a Sunday flight to Alaska. I dealt with Margot, Anthony, and Matthew. As soon as Mushu was shipped to me I refreshed his flight status every 5 minutes. I was so anxious for him to arrive. Just like any puppy owner, i was concerned for his health and his temperment. For the first few minutes he was shaking becuase he was scared (and probably cold) but after that, he was running around with our goldendoodle like he owned the place. You can tell Mushu was a happy puppy! Its only day 2 and hes already potty trained. Ive already recommended Premier pups to my friends who are planning to purchase a pup from them this week! Thank you to the Premier pups staff who sent us our new family member! and also a side note for all you people who think Premier pup uses puppy mills, I highly doubt it becase theres no way a puppy like Mushu comes from a puppy mill, he's way to happy and chubby haha. I would assume a puppy from a mill would be scared, shy, and sad looking. which is completely opposite then Mushu. I honestly have no idea how the staff doesnt want to take home all the puppies... Thank You!-Chelsea from Alaska

Name: Delilah
Breed: Teddy Bear
Client: Lynette
Loc: Dallas, TX

We purchased our little Delilah (formerly “Gili”) the day her pic was posted! I was extremely hesitant about purchasing a puppy online! Especially 3.5 weeks before she was actually available! I did a lot of research on Teddy Bear breeds prior to the purchase, and I asked a lot of questions! For instance, I asked what specific breeds were mixed, and I requested pictures of the parents. Our Teddy Bear pup is a Maltese/Shih tzu mix (Malshi). In my opinion, I would expect more information to be automatically given from Premier Pups... especially since a “Teddy Bear” breed is a vague category that includes many mixes... and especially for the price. I asked for an updated video or picture before she was flown out. I was extremely happy to get an adorable video! We ran into a few glitches with her microchip number, and I never received an initial email after purchasing her, only an automatic receipt. The issues were resolved quickly and politely! The employees I spoke to throughout the process were very kind and helpful! I really liked that I could text a question also. Her flight went smoothly, and we immediately fell in love with her! Premier Pups called 2-3 times after we received her to check in! She is now 13 weeks old, has been to the vet twice for check ups, and she is a healthy, happy, growing little puppy! We love our little Malshi! Overall, we’d do it all again to get Delilah! She’s pure joy! My advice to anyone making a puppy purchase is to be proactive in gathering as much information as you can, set up a vet appointment as Premier Pups recommends, evaluate the preventive meds and the needs of your specific pup, and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions! Thank you Premier Pups!

Name: Pogi
Breed: Teddy Bear
Client: Ana Barbee
Loc: Rochester Hills Michigan

After years and years of my kids asking for a puppy July 2020 is when I finally gave in! The process of looking for the perfect one and where to get it was very difficult until we came across Premier Pups. We were worried that it would be a scam because that is common amongst lots of sites but Premier pups was reliable and their communication from making the first deposit to the first week of having him was amazing. I would recommend them to anybody looking for a new pup to join their family! Our Pogi is awesome he is an 11th month Bichon Frise/Shitzu who loves playing outside and taking long walks!

Date: 7/2/2016
Name: Lucky (aka Toby)
Breed: Teddy Bear
Client: Grandma to the puppy
Loc: Palm City, Florida

I was very skeptical, and I had major second thoughts...but I was totally wrong! Premier pups were every thing they professed to be and more! Adding a canine family member is not to be taken lightly. First a little history. My daughter and family had very sweet little Shitzu who sadly came from a puppy mill. "Doogie's" time with us was good while it lasted, even tho his health problems, typical of a puppy mill, plagued him most of his life. Never ever again would we make the mistake of getting a pup from a mill! After some deep and exhaustive research online AP/PP looked promising. These folks care deeply about the health and welfare of each puppy they place in a loving home. They are the middlemen between reputable licensed breeders and families looking for a quality puppy. AP/PP does all the vetting of breeders and their facilities so that you don't have to. They will NOT represent any breeder who does not conform to their high standards. Their reputation depends on it! 8,000+ reviews on their website confirm that. Many years of being in business confirm that. Lucky arrived wagging his tail and ready to play....no worse for wear tho he flew from Ohio. You could immediately tell that Lucky had been handled frequently and had been socialized. There is no struggle to take a shower or bath and he loves playing with the kids! There really are no words that can adequately express the quality of this organization. AP/PP are great communicators! No question is too small My daughter and I called several times before Lucky arrived...and I had "Major second thoughts" as his arrival grew closer. Each time, Mike or Matt or Ryan would talk me off the ledge! Their support did not stop after Lucky arrived. They called several times to see how the pup was adjusting, making suggestions and answering more questions. Their "after the sale" protocol is beyond impressive! Lucky's first flight was cancelled so his arrival was delayed by a day. Knowing that we had a couple of very dissappointed kids on this end, and a puppy who was in a crate ready to fly until it was cancelled..Mike took the time to bring the puppy to his family's home..giving Lucky a chance to get some exercise and play with the kids...and sent our kids a video...just to reassure them that all was well!!! Who does that? Ethical people who really care about the puppies they represent. Don't have any doubts..AP/PP are the real deal. And we thank them every time we get to enjoy our new adorable family member! AP/PP have my email and cell # if you need reassurance from a live customer!
