The Teddy Bear is a designer hybrid that was first bred in the year 2000, from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Maltese (Mal-Shi) or in some cases from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Bichon (Shichon). They are quite popular in the United States and are highly sought after from dog breeders.
Appearance and Grooming
They have round faces with big eyes, small and flat noses, long and droopy ears and a puffy short tail. Partnered with fluffy coats, they resemble little bears. Their fur has different colors, making each of their patterns unique. The colors most common are white, brown, black, grey and yellow. Their fluffy hypoallergenic coats need to be brushed, washed and trimmed periodically.
One of the most loyal dog breeds; they are highly affectionate with high levels of obedience. They are recognized for their gentle nature and bark only when they feel the need to alert their owner. This attribute makes them a great selection for a watch dog.
Family and Companionship
This dog will share its love and affection with each member of its family, equally. Its sociable and friendly nature makes it a great companion for both people and other pets. These are the perfect pet for a family who always has someone around as they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time- they thrive in the company of others.
The Teddy Bear is not a highly active dog therefore a small daily walk along with some indoor play is adequate for their overall health.
Training and Socialization
This designer breed, although sporty and playful shows traits of stubbornness. They do extremely well at following commands and learning new tricks, as long as the owner is gentle and patient. Like many small breeds they need extra attention when it comes to potty training. Socializing your new puppy at an early age and continuing through adolescence will assure good behavior and maturity into adulthood.

Love our new puppy. She is everything they said she would be and more. Thanks Premier Pups!!!
Paris is a total blessing to our family, we celebrated her birthday just a month ago. She is the best. She was easy to potty train and teach. Paris is always a delight. We had a great experience at Premier Pups and it was definitely the right place to purchase a puppy. Premier Pups is the BEST place to purchase a dog! The staff were kind and very helpful. I wouldn't change a thing! It was a great experience!
I originally got Charlie so I could have a companion while my boyfriend was away. But as soon as he arrived he soon became much more than a companion, he became my very best friend. He is the sweetest, funniest, and craziest dog I have ever owned and stole my heart immediately upon meeting him. He is so laid back and easy to train. I wouldn’t rather have any other dog.
Nipsey is my baby he is so spoiled I have one human child who is a boy who is growing up an doing his own thing so Nipsey is my second child my baby he is loved by everybody he is doing great ! I would def recommend premier pups I love my new fur baby !!!!
We had been looking online at a lot of breeders and just happened to come across Premier Pups and we seen this little girl and we instantly fell in love. Everyone at Premier Pups were wonderful and caring and answering all our questions, we live in ND, so we were concerned about the airplane ride in our cold weather. But they made sure to check the forecast every day before they booked the flight. And once she arrived they called and texted to see how she was doing. We've told all our friends and family about Premier Pups and how awesome they are. So from us and Anezka Letang THANK YOU!!!
We got Moose (previously known as Abbott) from a friend who actually got him from Premier Pups. Moose is such a good boy, he is very sweet and adorable. He is also a healthy dog, we are really pleased with his health conditions. That’s one of the reasons we got another puppy from Premier Pups (which I will post a review soon as well)
Premier Pups was wonderful. Tess is exactly what we wanted. We love our little Tess so much. She loves her new home.
I starting looking high and low for the perfect pup for our family when I came across premier pups. That’s where I found Emme (previously Julie) I can’t not give this place enough thumbs up!??. From the initial phone call to the follow up calls they were helpful and professional. Esme is the sweetest pup and has been such a blessing to our family already. And at 11 weeks she’s almost totally potty trained and is quickly learning commands. I will defiantly come back to premier pups for future puppies! 5 stars all the way! ?? ????????
We waited 6 years until we decided on a new fur baby When we saw our little girl with Premier Pups it was love at first sight. Very professional staff & helped me with all my questions with having a young pup.
Bentley is the perfect pet. Very loyal and loving. We have not had a dog in our family in over 30 years so it was a big adjustment for us. Premier Pups has been absolutely fantastic. I have called several times before purchasing the pup and after. They are wonderful. I would highly recommend them. Their pups are top of the line.
