Havachon History

The Havachon is a mixed-breed of a purebred Havanese and a purebred Bichon Frise. Both parent breeds are members of the Bichon (or Barbichon) family and highly popular companion pets and lapdogs. The Havachon date of origin is yet undetermined although it is believed they may have originated during the 2000s in the United States. The Havachons have seen an increase in popularity in the past 10 years and merit their fame to their sweet temperaments, merry disposition, and cuddly looks. As a fairly new breed, the Havachon lacks a documented history. To learn more about this breed, we can take a look at the history of the Havanese and Bichon Frise parent breeds.

The Havanese, also known as Cuba’s National Dog and the Havana Silk Dog, is a member of the Barbichon family and a well-loved breed worldwide. The Havanese pups arrived in Cuba with Spanish colonists and soon sailed across Europe with their trading companions. With their cute appearance and joyful attitude, these wonderful dogs have traveled from one royal lap to another for many centuries. They have been adoringly represented in art and literature, and have never ceased to amaze with their generous affection.

The Bichon Frise, also known as Bichon a Poil Frise, is also a member of the Barbichon family and a greatly admired family dog. Originally from the Canary Islands, the Bichon Frise has made an everlasting impression with the renowned painter Ramon Gaya, King Henry III, and Queen Victoria. These precious pooches have been admired through history as excellent performers with the traveling circus, loving companion pets, sweet therapy dogs, and luxurious pets for high society families. The Bichon Frise is famously known today as a gorgeous cinematic star and a most wonderful show dog and family companion pet.

The Havachon is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club and the Designer Dog Kennel Club and is among the most popular mixed-breeds of 2021.
