Doodle Dogs Explained – Part 1

What is a Doodle dog?

A Doodle dog breed is a mix of two purebred dogs, one of which is always a Poodle. These dogs are adorable, smart, joyful, and completely sweet. In other words, Doodle puppies are the creation we can’t get enough of. The first doodle breed to ever be created was the Cockapoo breed who appeared back in the 50s. By mixing two different pure-bred dogs, the new breed puppies would inherit qualities, features, and traits from both of their parents, resulting in a healthier, more balanced, and uniquely looking dog breed.  

Why are Doodle dogs so popular?

Since the 50s, when the first doodle breed was created, the fame surrounding these dogs has been on a fast-rising trajectory. As with all things, humans have preferences for everything, and dog owners in particular prefer their dogs to be loving, smart, responsive to training, loyal, and docile.

Basically, the dream is to have a dog with as many qualities as possible. A dog that is cute but has aggressive tendencies, isn’t ideal for a family with children, nor is one that sheds like a pillow that lost a fight. As professional dog breeders set out to create a new type of dog breed, they had one goal in mind – to gift the world with a perfectly balanced dog. And with doodle dogs, that is what they achieved.

Doodle breeds are among the most balanced dogs in the canine kingdom. Their temperaments are calm, their looks are exquisite, their hair stays on them, and their personalities are cuddly and playful. In the last 70 years, numerous doodle breeds have been created all over the world, all of which are perfectly perfect. Among them are 14 doodle breeds that the world has come to favor above all. What is a Cavapoo?

The Cavapoo is the puppy of a Cavalier King Charles spaniel crossed with a Miniature or Toy Poodle. Cavalier King Charles spaniels and Poodles are both incredibly smart dog breeds renowned for their trainability and affectionate nature. Cavapoo puppies take after both of their parents in both looks and personality. They are gentle, playful, and as gorgeous as can be.  

Are Cavapoos hypoallergenic?

Although one of their parents sheds and the other does not, the Cavapoos are generally very low shedders. Hypoallergenic Cavapoo qualities are more like those of their Poodle parent. Although it is said that no dog breed can be 100% hypoallergenic, some dog breeds like the Cavapoo produce less dander and are safe to be around as far as allergy sufferers are concerned.  

How big do Cavapoos get?

Cavapoos are a small dog breed, and just like their parents, they reach no more than 14 inches in height and weigh less than 20 pounds. Some Cavapoo adult dogs can weigh as little as 8 pounds and reach their adult height at 9 inches. There are also smaller versions of the breed such as the Toy Cavapoo and Teacup Cavapoo that weigh less than 8 pounds.

What is a Cockapoo?

The Cockapoo puppy is a mix between a Cocker spaniel and a Miniature Poodle dog. Also known as the dog breed that paved the way for the creation of all other doodle breeds, the Cockapoo is one of the most popular crossbreeds in the United States, having been around for over 70 years. Cockapoo puppies are a unique blend of good looks, intelligence, and charm.  

Are Cockapoos hypoallergenic?

Like their Cavapoo friends, the Cockapoos have one parent that sheds ocassionally and one that does not, which means that they either shed very little or not at all. Most Cockapoo puppies inherit the curly-textured coat that their hypoallergenic Poodle parents are renowned for, which in turn, makes them semi or fully hypoallergenic.  

How big do Cockapoos get?

A full-grown Cockapoo can reach between 10 and 15 inches in height and weigh an average of 12-25 pounds. Toy Cockapoo and Teacup Cockapoo puppies are typically much smaller than their standard counterparts, reaching an adult weight of 10 pounds at most.

What is a Havapoo?

Are Havapoos hypoallergenic?

The Havapoo is a non-shedding dog breed with excellent hypoallergenic qualities. Since neither of their parents shed or cause allergic reactions in humans, these dogs are amongst the most sought-after by people who are allergic to pets.  

How big do Havapoos get?

The Havapoo size can be slightly different even between puppies of the same litter. Generally, a full-grown Havapoo will weigh between 8 and 12 pounds and reach a maximum height of 9 to 12 inches. Toy Havapoo puppies and Teacup Havapoo puppies can reach as little as 4 pounds when fully grown.

The Maltipoo mix also has smaller versions like the Toy Maltipoo, Micro Teacup Maltipoo, and Teacup Maltipoo, that can weigh as little as 3 or 4 pounds.
