English Bulldog puppies for sale – Purebred puppies in Ohio

The term “Bulldog” commonly refers to the English Bulldog, but can also refer to the American Bulldog, French Bulldog, or now extinct Old English Bulldog. A stocky, muscular breed with an unmistakable wrinkled face and compact muzzle, the Bulldog is known for having thick folds above its nose, droopy lips, and an occasional underbite. Despite its intimidating appearance, the Bulldog is friendly, patient, and extremely loyal to its owner, and has been known to form strong bonds with children. For this reason, it is among one of the most popular family pet breeds.

We took our little puppy (English Bulldog/Beagle mix formerly named J-Loo) home in October 2015. She is the sweetest, most lively, playful little dog ever! Couldn't be happier with our little addition to the family. She was healthy when we picked her up, micro chipped and up to date on her shots, and a list of food and feeding times were also supplied and greatly appreciated! We love our little Janis! I'd recommend Premier Pups to anyone looking for a puppy!

English Bulldog Dog Breed Information

The English Bulldog has its origin in the British Isles from the 12th century, where it was developed from the ancient Asiatic Mastiff. Its name was received because it was used in bull baiting and due to its robust look. The breed passed through several crossing and in the end resulted the English Bulldog of our days, with a different temperament. It was first recognized in 1886.

English Bulldog is a wide, medium-sized and compact dog with short legs. It has a massive body and head with extra skin on the skull and forehead that falls in folds. It has a short, thick neck and a deep and strong chest. It has the cheeks extended to the sides of the eyes, a wide muzzle, a broad black nose with large nostrils, deep set dark eyes, small rose ears which are thin and set high on the head. It has also massive broad and square jaws with hanging upper lips. The tail is straight or screwed and carried low. It has short, flat coat which is straight, smooth and glossy whose color can vary from red brindle and other shades of brindle, solid white, solid red, fawn, fallow, piebald, pale yellow or washed out red, white or a combination of these colors.

It can weigh at maturity between 20 and 25 pounds and can have a height between 12 and 16 inches.

Its coat is easy to groom and it needs to be combed, brushed and bathed only when necessary. It is an average shedder. Its face should be wiped every day to clean inside the wrinkles. Its ears should be periodically cleaned as it is prone to infections.

English Bulldog is calm, gentle, sensitive, tolerant and very affectionate with children and it is friendly and sociable with other pets. It is a loyal and faithful dog that loves to spend time with its master, being a wonderful companion due to its playfulness, liveliness and spontaneity. It is suitable for apartment, but requires a proper training as it tends to become stubborn. It needs a patient and calm trainer and it can be shaped as a very obedient dog. It is also a brave, determined and excellent guard dog. It doesn’t give up easily.

English Bulldog is very picky and requires high care and human’s attention to be happy. When it is young, it is full of energy. It snores very loudly, has drool and slobber tendencies and is a messy eater. It requires daily walk to fulfill its primal canine instinct to migrate.

It is sensitive to high temperatures and is prone to heart stroke, that’s why it needs to be protected and to avoid being walked when the sun is very strong. It has the tendency to become obese, which leads to many inconveniences, difficulty in movement or health issues such as heart disease. It is recommended to have a tailored diet according to the age and doctor’s recommendations. If it becomes obese it will be very lazy and hard to breathe as it is a brachycephalic dog.  It is prone to breathing problems, eye issues, cherry eye, tumors, skin infections, hip and knee problems, flatulence, elbow and hip dysplasia, allergies, patellar dislocation, torsion of the stomach. If it is proper cared, it can avoid these health issues.
